More Fun Food

I was happy to done with thinking of new ideas for Halloween food, but the kids still wanted the fun to keep going, so they made their hamburgers into aliens.  I did try making a witches hand for dinner after we finished reading The Witches by Roald Dahl.

 

 

 

Happy Halloween!

 

 Kayla and Brayden loved going from house to house to get candy and could have kept going all night.  Spencer burned out really fast.  Since I stayed home to had out candy, he kept asking Allen to carry him.

Pumpkin Carving

The kids had a great time carving pumpkins.  I couldn't find our pumpkin carvers because I had to hide them from Brayden when we got the Halloween decorations out.  Spencer used a small pearing knife, and it was apparently perfect for him because he was able to carve his own pumpkin.

 

 

 

Trunk or Treat

The trunk or treat was a fun preview to Halloween candy craziness complete with a chilli dinner.  Kayla is a fairy, Spencer is a fireman and Brayden is a builder.  Mom and dad are vikings (although Spencer thinks the hats are cool too).  We met up with Spencer's best friend from school, Christopher, and his family and his sister Amelia.

 

Fun Festive Food

The kids had fun with Halloween themed food for the week leading up to Halloween.  They ate alien sloppy joes, pumpkin pancakes, mummy dogs, jack-o-lantern mini pizzas, jack-o-lantern quesadillas, pepper brains, olive spiders (Spencer wouldn't eat his because it freaked him out), taco snakes, bat bread bowls and spider bread.

 

 

Witches Spell Swap

I went to a fun recipe spell swap night where all the ladies dressed up as witches.  I was voted the most chic witch or something.  It was a lot of fun!

 

The Pumpkin Patch

Pumpkin patches are always lots of fun.  The kids were able to run through a little haystack maze, choose a pumpkin, pet horses (which again made Spencer's eyes very itchy), ride in a tractor pulled train, pet bunnies and pigs, paint their pumpkins, and get messy in the hay.

Happy Birthday Allen

For Allen's birthday, Spencer and I met him out at his school for a birthday lunch at Thai Corner.  Kayla and Brayden both had soccer practice that night until 7:30, so we had a pizza movie night with ice cream cake afterward.

 

Kayla

Kayla loves to dress up, and she dressed up her favorite stuffed animals too.

 

Kayla got contacts!  She drew a picture of herself without glasses, and when I asked her about it, she said that she thinks her glasses make her look a little nerdy, so when we went to have her yearly eye exam, we had her try out contacts.

 

The 3rd graders at Kayla's school were able to grow vegetables and herbs for a fall garden.  They all got an earthworm to add to the garden to help aerate the soil.

 

 

 

Soccer - Fall 2011

All 3 kids played soccer this year.  Kayla had so much fun with Abby on her team, and Brayden had a great time with Max on his team.  Spencer also had his friend Caden on his team.  The kids also did a lot of soccer watching with 3 games each Saturday.

 

 

Fun Stuff

Kids can manage to have fun anywhere, including outside the doctor's office, where the pillars help make a body into an airplane.

 

Allen loves his Kings jersey sent to him by his hockey friends Dave and Mark in Germany. 

 

 

 

 

Corpus Christi

We really enjoyed our Labor Day weekend trip to Corpus Christi.  We spent all 3 days of the weekend at Malaquite Beach at North Padre Island National Seashore.  The beach was really clean and there was a place to rinse off away from the sand as well as indoor showers.  The kids love building sand castles and digging holes.  The water was warm and the waves were really fun due to a storm somewhere else in the gulf.  Brayden was able to try out collecting ghost shrimp with a pvc pipe contraption, we took pictures in front of the sand castle gift shop and watched the fun painted hermit crabs in the shop.  Going to the beach was a great way to end the summer!
